Niu Han

founder, director

Born in Xi'an, China in 1985, Niu Han was brought up in New Zealand. He studied Fine Arts and Film at the University of Auckland and a PhD at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.

Niu Han's film practice made selection to Berlinale Talents, Venice Biennale College, Taipei Golden Horse Academy and the Abbas Kiarostami film auteurs workshop in Cuba.


Markus Teufel

head of development

Markus Teufel is a writer, composer and producer based between Vienna and Beijing.

Born in Lower Austria in 1986, he graduated from Commercial College and studied philosophy at the University of Vienna.

Markus co-created and chief-edited Austrian culture magazine 'momag' before joining Niufilm for the production of 'Land of Nobody' in 2013.


Kentaro Yamada

creative director

Kentaro Yamada is a Japanese multidisciplinary artist, creative director and entrepreneur based in London, UK.

He attended Elam School of Fine Arts of University of Auckland and The School of Art Institute of Chicago and obtained a Master of Fine Art degree (with distinction) from Goldsmiths College London.

Kentaro Yamada worked with global brands such as MTV, Nike and Prada in creative and tech led campaigns and has involved in a variety of artistic projects from founding tech startups to creating luxury fashion brands.


Jake Mahaffy

Jake Mahaffy's self-made micro-budget films have been screened around the world at festivals and venues such as Venice (Orizzonti Best Film Award), SXSW (Grand Jury Prize), Sundance, Rotterdam, Leeds, AFI, Stockholm, Edinburgh, Moscow, Ljubljana, Boston MFA and MoMA New York.

Jake studied Fine Arts and Filmmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago plus Directing at the Russian State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow.

As an Associate Professor of Film and Art he founded two filmmaking programs at universities in the United States and now coordinates the Screen Production program at the University of Auckland, New Zealand.



Mike S. Ryan


New York City native and NYU Tisch School of the Arts graduate Mike S. Ryan started out in the independent film's 1990's heydey with films like Ang Lee's 'The Ice Storm' and Todd Haynes' 'Far From Heaven'.

As a producer his films have won international acclaim including the Academy Award nominated ‘Junebug', Bela Tarr’s last film ‘Turin Horse’ (Winner at Berlinale 2014), and Jake Mahaffy’s ‘Free In Deed’ (Winner at Venice Biennale 2015).

Mike was nominated for an Independent Spirit ‘Producer of the Year’ Award and was named one of Variety’s 2007 ‘10 Producers to Watch’.
